Belmont University Women’s Tennis Team Faces Stiff Competition at Middle Tennessee

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. –

The Belmont University women’s tennis team exhibited resilience and competitive spirit in a recent match against Middle Tennessee in Murfreesboro, but ultimately fell short with a final score of 6-1. Despite the loss, sophomore Hana Sokolovic provided a bright spot for the team by securing a crucial singles match victory at the No. 3 position.

Hana Sokolovic Secures Single Match Victory

Sokolovic’s journey in her singles match against Middle Tennessee’s Lena Peyer was marked by a strong second-set comeback. She initially dropped the opening set 6-4 but fought back valiantly to level the score with a 6-4 second set. Sokolovic’s impressive resilience extended into the third set, where she secured a tiebreaker victory over Peyer.

Tight Contests, but Frustration Lingers for Bruins

The match proved particularly challenging for Belmont’s senior players Viktoria Kliimand and Aly Getty. Kliimand began her singles match against Ilaria Sposetti strongly, winning the first set 6-2. However, Middle Tennessee clawed back, with Sposetti winning the second and third sets, including a decisive tiebreaker. Similarly, Getty found herself in a two-set duel with Cassidy Mataia, both sets ending narrowly in favor of Mataia, 7-5, 6-4.

Doubles Disadvantage Costs Belmont

In doubles action, the team struggled to capitalize on opportunities. At the top doubles position, Sara Conde and Peyer of Middle Tennessee defeated Aly Getty and Anastasiya Zholdakova with a convincing 6-3 scoreline. Meanwhile, Mataia and Sposetti dominated their match against Belmont’s No. 3 doubles team, overcoming them 6-0.
