Belgian tourists show a preference for July (24%) when planning their summer vacations. September follows closely with 22% of trips, while August accounts for 20%, and June for 17%.

France Remains Top destination

For Belgian tourists, FRANCE remains the most popular destination this summer, attracting 22% of travelers. SPAIN is second with 14%, and ITALY accounts for 7%. However, these European countries have seen a decrease in popularity compared to previous years, as more belgians explore destinations further afield. Approximately 15% of Belgian vacationers plan to travel within BELGIUM itself.

Security and geopolitical factors are key determinants in destination choices. RUSSIA, ISRAEL, UKRAINE, the UNITED STATES, and TURKEY are being avoided by many Belgian tourists this year. Climate and the cost of living also heavily influence their decisions.

Air travel is projected to be the most popular mode of transportation this summer, with 51% of Belgians choosing to fly. Personal cars are the second most popular option,accounting for 44% of trips. According to Europ Assistance, the rise in electric vehicle adoption may be a contributing factor. concerns about the availability of charging stations along travel routes and in popular destinations may be deterring some vacationers.

Average Vacation Budget

The average budget for Belgian households’ summer vacations is 2,170 euros.This places BELGIUM third among European countries in terms of vacation spending, behind SWITZERLAND and the UNITED KINGDOM.

Among those who do not plan to vacation this summer,financial constraints are the primary reason (39%). Saving money or preferring to travel at other times of the year are also factors influencing this decision.
