Belgian Artists & HIV: Support & Awareness

by Archynetys Health Desk

Twelve artists from the Belgian pop scene will participate on November 29 at the Madeleine, in Bruxellesat a concert in support of the fight against HIV. The event, organized by the Ex Æquo association, comes as the epidemic is experiencing a resurgence in Belgium, with 13% of new contaminations in 2023.

Colt, Red Sebastian, Leon, Lay this drum, Adam La Nuit, Rokia Bamba, Morpho, Elia Rose, Achille & Tmoin, Judith Kiddo, Nana Kill and Sing Out Brussels will perform during this second edition of “La Nuit Positive”, sponsored by the artist Mustii.

Promote communication with young people

The Ex Æquo association wishes to renew communication on HIV among young people. “Young people no longer seem to have basic information about HIV, which prevents them from adapting their behavior and potentially exposes them to a risk of contamination,” observes Pablo Sanz Moreno, president of the association. Various surveys also reveal a lack of understanding of methods of contamination and prevention, as well as numerous prejudices about life with HIV.

“With this concert, we seek above all to raise awareness among young people so that they continue to protect themselves during sexual intercourse and that they get tested regularly,” underlines Mr. Sanz Moreno. The association also advocates for broader sexuality education from adolescence and systematic integration of education for relational, emotional and sexual life (EVRAS) into the school curriculum.

End discrimination

“We still need to break down prejudices to allow people living with HIV to live without being discriminated against,” continues the president of the association. “Too many people still don’t know that a person living with HIV on treatment and with an undetectable viral load does not transmit the virus.”
