Daniel Davies, Head of the Department of Life Sciences and Professor of Immunology at Imperial College London, explains the common immune boosting habits and beliefs that should be avoided this winter, and reveals what works to maintain health and resist colds, according to the Telegraph.

Eat herbs and honey

You may hear from some that a cup of herbal tea soothes a sore throat, or that a spoonful of honey boosts immunity. However, Davis warns that there is no scientific consensus supporting the effectiveness of these treatments.

He adds that testing the effectiveness of these immune-boosting treatments is almost impossible from an ethical and scientific standpoint, as it would require injecting people with a specific infection, which cannot be done ethically, then giving some of them types of honey or herbs and comparing the results with control samples to determine the true effectiveness….
