Assistant basketball coach arrested for alleged lewd acts with minors
A Simi Valley Unified School District (SVUSD) assistant basketball coach was arrested Thursday following an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct with two minors, police said.
According to the Simi Valley Police Department, in October, a mandated reporter notified detectives of allegations that an adult man had sexual relations with two minors.
The suspect was identified as Jabari DeShields, 36, of Simi Valley, and is currently being held at the Ventura County Main Jail.
During the investigation, detectives determined that DeShields worked as a basketball coach in the district. Police said DeShields met the victims at a local business after school hours.
According to authorities, one of the minors is enrolled in the district’s independent study program, while the other is not a district student.
Both victims were enrolled in the Simi Valley School District during the alleged events, although they did not attend the same school as DeShields, according to authorities.
Deshields is charged with five felony counts of lewd acts on a minor under 14 years of age.
Detectives have no information or evidence to suggest there could be additional victims, but anyone with information about this case is urged to call 805-583-6913.
