The city of Barth is looking to offload its waterfront “steering house,” seeking a lessee for the structure that has been plagued by financial woes. according to mayor Friedrich Carl Hellwig, the expiration of funding obligations now allows the city to lease the building. The harbor master will be relocated to new facilities at the marina.
“The tax house is renovated, but the tenant would have to make some investments, for example in an air conditioning system. We would take over the installation of other toilets and refinance through the lease.” He wants to see the property finaly put to good use, a sentiment driven by the significant expenditures already invested in its construction and upkeep.
I just want the property to finally be used again.

Early Visions Date Back to 1994
The concept for redeveloping the Barther Hafen area, including the construction of a guest house, began taking shape in 1994 following German reunification. By 1998, plans were underway to build a harbor building with a distinctive “steering house” design. Construction commenced in 2000, but the building was not completed until 2002.
