Man Dies Saving Colleague at Pig Farm in Barcs

A worker is being hailed as a hero after losing his life while attempting to rescue a colleague at a pig farm in Barcs, Hungary. The incident occurred during repairs to a slurry drainage channel.
According to RTL News, the tragedy unfolded on Wednesday at the SomogytarnĂłca pig farm. Two workers were involved in the incident. The elder of the two men descended into the drainage channel but was quickly overcome by noxious gases and lost consciousness. His younger colleague immediatly whent to his aid.
The younger man managed to pull his colleague from the channel, but he himself was affected by the gases. Firefighters arrived on the scene and extracted him from the mine. Rescuers attempted to revive him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
“The man is considered a hero in Barcs, who sacrificed his life to save his colleague,” said Mayor Erika AndernĂ© Röszler to RTL News.
Inquiry Underway
Farm management has stated they will not be making any statements until the ongoing investigation is complete. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A similar incident occurred in July of the previous year at the Szákszendi pig farm, resulting in the deaths of two individuals.
