Barcelona

Barcelona finally returned to Camp Nou after two years. However, Hansi Flick’s team was only training there, not having an official match.

The Camp Nou renovation process has been ongoing since June 2023, and during that time they had to evacuate to the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on the Montjuic hill. Barca wants to get back there quickly, but the construction process is running behind the original schedule.

However, as reported The Athletic And ESPN on Friday (7/11/2025) or 894 days since they last competed there, Barcelona returned to using Camp Nou. But not for competition, but for first team training.

As many as 23 thousand paid spectators were allowed to attend to watch the training session which lasted about an hour. This number refers to permits issued by the local government.

Since October, Barca has been allowed to use the Camp Nou as a match location, but only 25,991 thousand spectators can attend it, because the renovations have not been completely completed. This figure is only around 25 percent of the capacity of the new stadium.

Barca chose not to take this option because they wanted to play at Camp Nou if it could be attended by 45 thousand spectators. Until the green light was given, they chose to remain at Montjuic, which could be attended by up to 50 thousand fans and provide more income.

President Joan Laporta is targeting new permits to increase the number of spectators at Camp Nou after the international break this month. The hope is that Barca will be able to play there when they host either Athletic Bilbao (22 November), Alaves (29 November), or Atletico Madrid (2 December).

The Camp Nou renovation was initially targeted for completion in June 2026. However, it has now been pushed back to June 2027, without counting the roof installation which could take up to a year after that.
