OTTAWA – On Wednesday, December 10, 2025, the Bank of Canada will announce, via press release, its decision on the target for the overnight rate. The press release will include a brief explanation of the factors that motivated this decision.

At 8:00 a.m. (ET), journalists will be able to review the embargoed key rate release during a closed session at the Bank’s headquarters in Ottawa. Please come to the entrance of the Bank of Canada Museum at 30 Bank Street (corner Wellington Street) and show photo identification.
For security reasons, journalists wishing to attend the closed session must confirm their presence no later than Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at noon (ET) with Media Relations. No admission will be authorized without prior registration.
At 9:45 a.m. (ET), the closed session ends and the embargo is lifted.

The public will have access to the key rate press release at 9:45 a.m. (ET) on the Bank’s website.

At 10:30 a.m. (ET), Bank Governor Tiff Macklem and Senior Deputy Governor Carolyn Rogers will give a press conference at the Bank of Canada Auditorium. The preliminary statement will be posted on the Bank’s website at 9:45 a.m. (ET).
For security reasons, all media wishing to attend the press conference must register in advance with the Bank. To do so, please contact Media Relations no later than Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 5 p.m. (ET). Notice to journalists, those responsible for shooting and still photographers that no admission will be authorized without prior registration.
Please come to the entrance of the Bank of Canada Museum at 30 Bank Street (corner Wellington Street) and show photo identification.
Those who need to install broadcast equipment will have access to the room starting at 9:45 a.m. (ET).
