Jakarta –
Severe traffic jams spread up to 32 kilometers (km) towards Gilimanuk Harbor, Jembrana, Bali, causing 17 travelers to faint last Sunday (15/3). Travelers collapsed due to fatigue and exposure to extreme heat while queuing to board the ship.
Homecomers have been queuing for about 14 hours, but never got on the ship. The victims were predominantly motorbike riders who had to struggle with dust and hot sun along the main Denpasar-Gilimanuk route. The medical team from the Jembrana Police Department of Health intervened to provide first aid at congestion points.
Head of the Jembrana Police Department of Health, Inspector I Gusti Bagus Adi Sadnyana Putra, confirmed that as of Sunday afternoon his party had treated dozens of travelers who were experiencing serious health problems.

“Everything has been treated and all of them are due to fatigue. We have medically evacuated a total of 17 people,” said Adi, as reported by detikBaliMonday (16/3/2026).
Of the 17 people, 16 of them were diagnosed with heat syncope, namely a condition of fainting or sudden dizziness due to exposure to high heat. This condition triggers widening of the blood vessels which causes a drastic reduction in blood flow to the brain.
“We have treated sixteen people who experienced heat syncope and were declared able to continue their journey. Meanwhile, one other person experienced a vulnus laceratum or torn wound,” explained Adi.
One traveler who suffered a laceration received medical treatment in the form of stitching the wound (hectating) and administering medication according to medical indications.
Not only adults, a baby also had to be evacuated by Jembrana Police personnel on Saturday (14/3/2026) evening. The baby, accompanied by his parents, was rushed to the Cargo Service Post after showing symptoms of health problems due to being stuck in traffic jams for hours.
