Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia asked private gas stations not to impose their will regarding the ethanol content in base fuel.

“And secondly, don’t let the private sector impose its will like that. Especially these gas stations, right? Don’t think that we don’t understand this. As the Papuans say, younger brother“You’re just about to write, brother has already read,” he said at the 100 Indonesian Economists Workshop at Bank Mega Tower, Jakarta, Tuesday (28/10/2025).

Initially, Bahlil denied that ethanol was not good as a fuel oil (BBM) mixture. Bahlil said that currently many countries use ethanol as a fuel mixture.

For information, the government plans to implement 10% ethanol blend fuel (E10) in 2027.

“So it is very wrong if there are discussions, discussions by various groups that ethanol is not good. India already uses E10, America E20, Thailand E20, several countries in America already use E85. We should not always think as if it were something like that,” he said.

Bahlil said that ethanol products are biofuels whose raw materials are obtained from local products such as corn, sugar cane and cassava. That way, Bahlil said this would create new jobs in Indonesia.

“The raw material for ethanol is corn, sugar cane, cassava and this is not only to maintain our energy. But it also creates jobs and is an instrument for growth that we can do in the regions,” he said.

Bahlil explained that the mandatory E10 would follow the succession of B40, which was considered to have been able to reduce diesel imports. Bahlil even said that if the mandatory B50 can be implemented next year, Indonesia could have the largest share of diesel imports.

“Now we want to make it using petrol, how to do it How so it’s not imported? We push E10 and E20. Ethanol,” he said.
