Details have emerged from British Airways and American Express regarding how customers can accumulate points to unlock benefits within the airline’s updated passenger loyalty programme.

This announcement follows criticism directed at BA six months prior, concerning their transition to a revenue-based loyalty system. the new system rewards tier points based on flight costs or package holiday bookings, rather than travel class and trip duration.

In April, the new “British Airways Club” loyalty scheme was announced; however, specifics on earning tier points through spending on the BA Premium Plus American Express cards were not initially provided.

Now, travelers can earn up to 2,500 tier points by spending £25,000 on their Amex cards, unlocking perks like early boarding, priority check-in, and lounge access.

Cardholders will also receive an automatic grant of 500 tier points from the airline as a “thank you for their loyalty”.

members spending £15,000 will receive 750 tier points upon enrollment, with an additional 750 points awarded after spending another £5,000.

A final 1,000 points are awarded after a secondary £5,000 spend, totaling the maximum £25,000 spend and 2,500 tier points.

If cardholders reach the full £25,000 spend before the offer concludes in February next year, they will earn 3,000 tier points due to the extra 500 awarded in June.

This total moves the number of points close to BA Bronze status, which requires 3,500 tier points, even without flying with the airline.

Silver status is attained at 7,500 points, and Gold at 20,000 points.

To participate, cardholders must register for the offer before January 2026.

In December, BA stated that these changes are part of a larger £7bn change program, creating “more ways than ever before to earn tier points”.

BA also noted that aligning points earned with pounds spent aligns them with a “model used by many other airline loyalty programmes across the world”.
