Strike Authorization Vote
Local 869, based inside the Warren Stamping Plant, recently conducted a strike authorization vote on May 6, with a 72%-28% majority in favor. The exact commencement date of the strike remains uncertain.
Reasons for Strike
Over 1,000 members of UAW Local 869 voted to authorize the strike due to the company’s neglect of health and safety concerns within the facility. Issues range from ventilation problems to inadequate personal protective equipment.

Climatic Conditions Affected About 90% Of Tomato Production
Assumption, IP Agency.- The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Carlos Giménez, detailed the situation of the tomato harvest nationwide, which was seriously affected by the weather conditions of the first months of the year. Out of 1,00,000 kilos that were expected, there will be around 80,000 kilos.
“The production level is low for this time and for what we had planned,” he reported at a press conference. He pointed out that the weather conditions, with the heat waves in January and February, and an atypical autumn hit family farming very hard.
“85% to 90% (of the crops) were affected and of the 1,00,000 to 800,000 kilos that we had (in previous harvests) we are going to have 80,000,” the minister pointed out.
Despite the technical assistance of the MAG, the high heat and lack of rain affected the yield of the crops, which currently affects the demand for tomatoes in the domestic market. He added that the weather conditions affected the entire region and especially family farming.
Technology adoption
An alternative to alleviate the effects of climate is the widespread adoption of technology. However, the investment is very high,

Major cocoa producers in Ivory Coast and Ghana, in the midst of one of their worst harvests in decades, have no beans on hand to meet deliveries of up to half a million tonnes pre-sold, about a quarter of current world prices. Two industry sources told Reuters.
The beans were pre-sold for around $2,508.00 per ton, while prices on the market reached around $8,000 (down from a few days ago). The volume in question represents approximately 20 percent of the production of the two countries.
It is unclear whether these contracts will be postponed, under the same conditions, to next season.
