A first outbreak of highly pathogenic avian flu has been confirmed in Garnat-sur-Engièvre, in Allier. Saône-et-Loire is partially concerned.
After bovine lumpy skin disease, it is avian flu which is attacking livestock farms. This Wednesday, October 29, a first outbreak characterized as “highly pathogenic” was discovered in a multi-species farm in Garnat-sur-Engièvre in Allier. Health safety measures were immediately put in place such as the depopulation of affected animals.
Like bovine dermatosis, a protection zone (3 km around the outbreak) and surveillance zone (10 km around the outbreak) have been established to limit the spread. It is through this means that the department of Saône-et Loire is directly affected by this avian flu through the towns of Lesme and Vitry-sur-Loire among others.
The Saône-et-Loire prefecture would like to remind you that “to avoid the spread of the virus, it is recommended that the entire public avoid frequenting wet areas (edges of ponds, ponds and rivers) where people park
wild birds, including in their absence, due to the possible presence of viruses in droppings and soiled soil.” As a reminder, the consumption of meat, liver and eggs is not harmful to humans.
