Coming for stomach pains, the mother was taken care of this Friday, October 31 by the doctor and midwife from the Livinhac-le-Haut/Saint-Santin Health Center, the firefighters of the Decazeville Basin and the Decazeville SMUR. The term had arrived, but little Lina was born in a maternity ward.
“My patient came to see the doctor, I wasn’t working. But I was called urgently to assess the situation. The baby was coming“, explains Solenne Lefèbre, midwife at the Livinhac-le-Haut/Saint-Santin Health Center in Aveyron.
Coming for stomach aches, it was finally accompanied by Solenne Lefèbre, Doctor Van der Schueren, firefighters and emergency doctors from SMUR in Decazeville, that the Livinhacoise mother gave birth to little Lina, whose umbilical cord was cut by the father.
“In five years, this is the third time that I have delivered mothers in an emergency. The first two times were at the Decazeville hospital where I worked. It’s great to have births like that that go well“, underlines the midwife.
Same smile from Lilian Cavalerie, head of the main rescue center of the Bassin firefighters: “It sometimes happens that we accompany parturients to the maternity ward in Rodez and sometimes to the emergency room in Decazeville to give birth. Firefighters trained for this. But this is the first time this has happened in a health center. It’s nice when our interventions concern births“.
Once the health checks were carried out, the mother and Lina were then transported to the maternity ward of the Rodez hospital center, in conjunction with the SMUR of Decazeville and Rodez.

A first birth in ages
In my memory as mayor of Livinhac-le-Haut, he has been since 2008, Roland Joffre does not remember a birth in the village for a very long time.
The councilor, who therefore has a new administration, will have to sign the birth certificate, which must be drawn up in the commune where the birth takes place, that is to say the commune where the umbilical cord was cut.
“Fortunately we have the Livinhac-le-Haut / Saint-Santin health center, and everything went well. Otherwise, the baby might have been born in the fire truck or in the emergency room.“.
