As a notable example, 85% of women felt well-informed about contraception, while only 66% of men shared this sentiment. Similar discrepancies were observed regarding puberty (84% of women vs.51% of men) and pregnancy (73% of women vs. 51% of men).

Knowledge Test: Unveiling Specific Gaps
Beyond self-assessment, the study included a knowledge test covering menstruation, menopause, endometriosis, and gender medicine. A concerning 55% of men and 24% of women were unaware of the average length of a menstrual cycle. Moreover, a significant portion of men incorrectly believed that a cycle lasting 21 to 35 days was inaccurate.
Knowledge about menopause symptoms and treatment options increased with age, particularly among women. However, even among millennials, only about a third felt adequately informed. Men’s knowledge remained consistently low across age groups. gen Z demonstrated the best understanding of endometriosis, yet half of the men and nearly a quarter of the women could not accurately describe the disease’s characteristics.

Specifically, 40% of those without a conversation partner rated their mental health as “rather bad” to “bad,” compared to only 19% of those who engaged in such discussions.

Alarmingly, 40% of women reported that their health concerns were not taken seriously during doctor’s visits. Furthermore, 60% were aware that diseases can manifest differently in men and women.
