Australian Open 2024: Vondrousová vs American – First Czech in Action

by Archynetys Health Desk

Twenty-six-year-old Vondroušová is one of 16 Czech representatives in the main competition of the first Grand Slam of the season.

She will compete against Baptiste, who is two years younger, for the first time, and the difference of more than three dozen places in the world ranking makes her the favorite for the duel.

The native of Sokol, one of 11 Czech women in singles, however withdrew from the tournament in Adelaide before the Australian Open due to a sore shoulder.

Only a day later, six more Czechs will go into action. Barbora Krejčíková will close the program in the Kia Arena against the twenty-third seeded Diana Šnajderová from Russia, the last match in the 1573 Arena will be played by the seventeenth seeded Jiří Lehečka, who will face the Frenchman Arthur Gea.

The Czech number one and tournament thirteenth player Linda Nosková will also make an appearance – she will face Latvia’s Darja Semenista on court number 6. Marie Bouzková will play a duel with Renata Zarazúa from Mexico on the “eight”. Karolína Muchova is awaited by Romanian Jaqueline Cristiano in the “fourteenth round”, and the program in the “fifteenth round” will be completed by Dalibor Svrčina against Jaume Munar from Spain.
