Indore: The police said that the accused who was arrested for sexually assaulting the Australian women cricketers who came to the World Cup in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, is a habitual criminal. Police arrested 29-year-old Aqeel Khan, the accused in the incident, on Friday. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra, who visited the two Aussie stars who were victims of violence, said that criminal cases have been registered against him before.

The accused is a native of Khajarana, Indore. But now he lives in Azad Nagar. Additional DCP Crime Branch Rajesh Dandotiya said there are at least 10 criminal cases against Akhil, including sexual harassment, robbery, assault and attempt to murder. He was recently released from Bhairavgarh Jail after serving 10 years in prison.
Apart from the Indian Penal Code, he has also been charged under the Arms Act, the Anti-Drug Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, the police said.
This past Thursday, he tried to attack two Aussie women cricketers. The incident happened near Indore Khajarana Road. The Aussies team stayed at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Indore. The stars went to the nearby cafe from the hotel in the morning. Accused Aqeel used to follow them on a two-wheeler and touch one of the actors inappropriately.
The players immediately reported the information to team security officer Danny Simmons. He would contact the local security liaison officers and file a complaint at the MIG police station. An eyewitness who witnessed the incident wrote down the registration number of the motorcycle which became crucial. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra later met the two players and recorded their statements. The suspect was arrested during the subsequent investigation.
