A 22-year-old man from New Jersey was charged with reckless driving following a crash on Saturday, June 7, according to teh Virginia State Police.
The Virginia State Police are currently investigating the incident, which involved a tractor trailer and a 2025 Honda CRV on I-81 northbound at mile marker 228 in Augusta County.
According to police reports, the driver of a Volvo VNL tractor trailer was traveling northbound in the left lane when the Honda CRV attempted to move from the right lane to the left lane and struck the tractor trailer. The impact caused both vehicles to hit a guardrail and a bridge.The cab of the tractor trailer separated from the trailer and went off the right side of the bridge into the Middle River below. The trailer overturned on the bridge, and the Honda CRV caught fire.
The driver of the tractor trailer was ejected from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, requiring hospitalization.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Mustafa B. Dogan, 22, of Ridgefield, N.J., also suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital. He was subsequently charged with reckless driving.
