Table of Contents
Audi is undergoing a notable global restructuring, marked by the introduction of several new models aimed at strengthening its position in key markets. This includes updates to existing models and the growth of new electric vehicles (evs) tailored to specific regional demands.
European Expansion: The A3 Electric
Audi plans to introduce a new entry-level electric car, the A3 Electric, to the European market. Originally slated for launch within two years, the production timeline has been adjusted to 2026. This model will be manufactured at the Ingolstadt plant. While specific technical details remain under wraps, it is anticipated that the A3 Electric will leverage the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, known for its cost-effectiveness in producing affordable evs. This move aligns with Volkswagen’s own plans to launch the ID.2 around the same period, indicating a coordinated effort within the group to capture a larger share of the entry-level EV market.
China-Specific Model: A Bold Move
Recognizing the intense competition from domestic automakers in China’s rapidly evolving EV market, Audi is adopting a unique strategy. In collaboration with SAIC, a state-owned enterprise, Audi plans to launch three models in the coming years, starting with a specific model tailored for the Chinese market. This model will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show on April 23.
This China-specific model will feature a simple “Audi” inscription on the front rather of the traditional four rings. This decision underscores the distinct nature of this vehicle, which is being developed on a platform provided by SAIC, reducing the development time by 30%.This collaboration allows audi to quickly adapt to the specific demands and preferences of Chinese consumers.
The pure electric car is based on the Audi E concept, so it retains its favorite body shape, which is somewhere between SUVs and Shooting Brake. The European production is problably closest to the Citroën C5 X. The total dimensions fit the A5 Avant and A6 Avant. Let’s not forget that China will enjoy space for legs and long wheelbases. In the case of audi E it is indeed dimensioned at 2.950 mm.

The wheelbase is dimensioned at 2.950 mm.
Performance and Technology
The SAIC platform incorporates an 800V architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging capabilities for its 100kWh battery. This allows for a range of 370 kilometers with just 10 minutes of charging. The vehicle boasts a planned power output of 562 kW and a torque of 800 Nm, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. Over the next two years, Audi plans to expand this lineup with an SUV and a dynamically styled model featuring a sloping roof.

Audi’s strategic moves in both Europe and China reflect its commitment to electrification and its ability to adapt to diverse market conditions. By leveraging existing platforms and forging strategic partnerships, Audi aims to maintain a competitive edge in the global automotive landscape.
