Atletico Fans to Simulate Game Day atmosphere at MRV Arena

Approximately 1,400 passionate Atletico Mineiro supporters, largely comprised of members from the Galoucura fan group, are set to participate in a dynamic load test at the MRV Arena this coming Sunday, March 30th. this exercise mirrors a similar event held prior to the stadium’s inauguration in 2023, albeit with a considerably larger crowd this time around. Back then, around 800 fans took part.

Engineering team Seeks Realistic Simulation

Spearheaded by Carlos Antônio Pinheiro, the engineering team behind the “Casa do Galo” aims to replicate the energetic atmosphere of a typical game day. This complete test will provide crucial data regarding crowd movement and structural response, ensuring the stadium’s readiness for full-capacity events. Such tests are vital, as they allow engineers to identify and address potential issues before they impact the fan experience. For example, London’s Wembley Stadium underwent similar load testing before its grand reopening, ensuring the safety and comfort of its patrons.

South Sector Modifications prompt Repeat Testing

This second load test is necessitated by the recent removal of all seating in the upper South sector of the stadium. The initial test focused on the lower section, which was originally designated for the organized fan groups. Now, with the relocation of these groups to the newly modified upper South sector, a re-evaluation is essential to guarantee optimal safety and acoustics.

Ongoing Construction and Enhancements

The MRV Arena remains a work in progress, with several key projects underway. These include:

  • Synthetic Turf Installation: The original natural grass has been wholly removed and is being replaced with state-of-the-art synthetic turf imported from Europe. The new surface is expected to arrive in Belo Horizonte shortly.
  • Acoustic Optimization: Efforts are focused on improving the acoustics in the Inter Sul sector. The goal is to amplify and contain the sound generated by the fans within the stadium, creating a more immersive and electrifying atmosphere. This is notably crucial, as studies show that stadium acoustics can significantly impact fan engagement and team performance.

Anticipated Return to Home Turf

Atletico mineiro anticipates playing their home games at the MRV Arena before the latter half of April. Though, should any delays arise, the club will continue to utilize either the Mineirão or Independência stadium as their home venue.
