Atlanta Fed President: Selection Process Widens | Reuters

[ワシントン 10日 ロイター] – Gregory Hale, chairman of the Atlanta Fed‘s board of directors, has indicated that he would like to expand the list of candidates to replace Bostic, who retired on February 28, from a national perspective rather than necessarily someone with local ties.

The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank has jurisdiction over the 6th District, which includes the wealthy state of Florida, the business-heavy state of Atlanta, Georgia, and the rural state of Alabama.

“We want to broaden the pool of candidates,” Hale said in an interview, explaining that local ties are not essential as long as they have the ability and will to support District 6. He added that he is currently accepting applications and expects to begin interviews within about 30 days.

Mr. Bostick, who was born in eastern New Jersey and served as a university professor in western California, visited the region extensively after becoming president, emphasizing rural and community development issues.

Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Bessent said in December 2025 that unless the future regional Fed president is someone who has lived in the region for three years, “we will exercise our veto power.”

The December 15, 2025 public notice announcing the search for Mr. Bostic’s successor also stated the hope for a long list of candidates with deep ties to District 6.

However, Hale emphasized that there are no restrictions on the search for a replacement.
