Starts two years before the standard
ASUS has presented a first concept for a router with the upcoming standard WiFi 8, with launch planned for 2026.
ASUS has unveiled its first router based on the upcoming standard WiFi 8. The product, called ROG NeoCore, was showcased as a concept during the technology fair CES 2026 along with the world’s first real performance test of WiFi 8. According to the company, this marks the step from theory to practical use of the new technology.
WiFi 8 is not primarily intended to provide higher top speeds, but should instead improve stability, coverage and response times in wireless networks. In tests compared to WiFi 7, WiFi 8 is said to provide up to twice the throughput at medium distances, twice as wide coverage for connected IoT devices, and up to six times lower latency in busy networks. The improvements are based on smarter coordination between multiple access points and connected devices.
ASUS highlights that WiFi 8 is adapted for environments with many wireless networks, such as apartment buildings, as well as for smart home products with low power consumption. The technology should also provide smoother performance when many devices are used at the same time. The company plans to launch its first WiFi 8 routers and mesh systems for home use in 2026.
According to the information currently available, the IEEE’s official WiFi 8 standard (802.11bn, also called Ultra High Reliability) is expected to be completed in 2028.
