Washington: An unusual asteroid traveling near Earth is thought to be a piece of the moon. But, how exactly it passed through the solar system remains a mystery. Now, researchers say they have unraveled a key connection in this cosmic puzzle. This asteroid is known as 2016 HO3. It is a rare quasi-satellite that orbits the Sun but remains close to our planet. Astronomers first discovered it in 2016 using the Pan-STARRS telescope, or Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System, in Hawaii. Scientists call the asteroid Kamo’olewa, a name derived from a Hawaiian creation chant.

This asteroid was born from the Moon

While most near-Earth asteroids originate from the main asteroid belt, according to a study published April 19 in the journal Nature Astronomy. This asteroid belt is located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. New research suggests that Kamo’olewa likely came from the Giordano Bruno crater on the far side of the moon, or the side that faces away from Earth. “This is the first time astronomers have observed a potentially dangerous near-Earth asteroid near a lunar crater,” said lead author of the study, Yifei Xiao, a visiting professor at the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory at the University of Arizona and a doctoral student at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Everything We Know About Cinco De Mayo Is…

The true essence of Cinco de Mayo: Celebrating Mexican heritage and military victory

As Cinco de Mayo approaches, it is important to recognize the true meaning of this holiday, far from the clichés about margaritas and tacos. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day, but rather a celebration of a significant military victory over the French.

On May 5, 1862, a poorly equipped Mexican army defeated a superior French force outside the city of Puebla. This victory, which came after years of civil war and financial struggles, marked a moment of strength and resilience for Mexico.

Mexican-American communities in the United States have embraced Cinco de Mayo as a way to honor their culture and identity. The holiday was revived by activists of the Chicano Movement in the 1960s and 1970s, who saw it as a way to reconnect with their Mexican heritage and to stand against systemic racism.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated with parades, music, food, and traditional festivities. Companies have commercialized the holiday, turning it into a profitable opportunity, but for many, it remains a day of cultural reflection and pride.

While some Latinos have chosen to distance themselves from the holiday,

An Indian Court Has Banned Islamic Madrassas

An Indian court has ordered a ban on Islamic madrassas in the country’s most populous state, while directing hundreds of thousands of students to attend traditional schools.

This court order is a move that will further alienate Muslims ahead of the national elections.

The Allahabad High Court in Uttar Pradesh on Friday struck down the 2004 Madrasas Act in the state. The court said that the law related to Islamic religious schools violates constitutional secularism.

Justices Subhash Vidyarthi and Vivek Chaudhary said the state government will ensure that children between the ages of six and 14 are admitted to regularly recognized institutions.

Religious madrassas have been a part of Muslim-populated Indian states for decades and focus on Islamic methods of education while other schools in India provide traditional education.

Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, head of Madrasa Education Board in the state, said that this initiative will affect 2.7 lakh students and about 10,000 teachers of 25,000 madrasas.

He said that although the court has not given any time to implement its order, madrasas are unlikely to be closed immediately.

Unforgettable Mariella

Mariella Agois, one of our greatest artists, has an essential anthology at MALI. (Photo: Hans Stoll)

Mariella Agois died this Sunday, January 21, coinciding with an impressive anthology at the MALI that covers 30 paintings made in the last 15 years. Her name is essential in our art history because she was one of the few – whatever her gender – who can be considered a teacher in Peru. This text was written before her departure and has been adapted to this new reality.

When I met Mariella Agois in the early 80s, she was – and continued to be – a prominent photographer and co-founder of the Secuencia photo gallery. From the beginning she seduced me with a work of solid conceptual investigations based on popular space. It was the Chorrillos #1 series on silver gelatin paper made between 1978-1980. I was also surprised by her ability to bring together the most prominent photographers of the time, so in 1984 I organized the ConSecuencia exhibition as a kind of tribute to all of them.

#controversy #Lequet #Liège #boss #beats #homeless #man #embarrassing #front #establishment

To say that Marc De Bruyn, the owner of the famous Lequet café in Liège, located on Quai de La Batte, does not attract unanimous sympathy is an understatement. The man who runs one of the most emblematic establishments in terms of Liège gastronomy is in fact also known for creating controversy… This Friday, May 3 at the end of the day, he once again distinguished himself in an unsavory manner.

It was in fact when opening his establishment, around 6 p.m., that the owner of Café Lequet slipped… Noting that several homeless people were in front of the window, he did not hesitate, with his employee, to beat up one of them. A homeless man who was visibly reluctant to leave.

According to the information sent to us, the manager of Café Lequet would not have appreciated that these homeless people were once again squatting on the sidewalk in front of his storefront… He would then have attacked a recalcitrant homeless person.
