The Belgium a TintinItaly Corto Maltese and France Asterix! Ce Thursday October 23, 2025 The new album of the adventures of the irreducible Gaul and his faithful friend Obélix is released: “Asterix in Lusitania” where the two friends will be on a mission in Portugal.

41: The number of albums of the adventures of Asterix

“Asterix the Gaul”, “the Golden Serp”, “the Combat of the Chiefs” or even “Caesar’s Papyrus”… There is inevitably an Asterix album lying around in the family library.
And for good reason, since the publication of the first comic strip in 1959this is the 41ᵉ opus of the adventures of Asterix and Obelix (without forgetting Idéfix) which comes out this Thursday. A hero who spans generations.
1: First time in Portugal
And in 41, there’s a, like first time. With “Asterix in Lusitania”, the Gallic friends go to Portugal for the first time.
Unsurprisingly, they come to the aid of Lusitanians who fight the Roman soldiers led by the centurion Nouvelopus, helped by a traitor named Pirespès.
Thus, we find numerous references to clichés Portuguese, from cod to earthenware to saudade (this melancholic feeling mixed with reverie) that fado expresses in particular.
2: Second collaboration for Fabcaro and Didier Conrad
After “L’iris blanc”, released in 2023, “Asterix in Lusitania” is the second album from the seasoned duo composed of the screenwriter Fabcaro and the designer Didier Conrad.
The latter, who lives in Austin, Texas (United States), is already a veteran since he took over the pencil of Albert Uderzo in 2013with Jean-Yves Ferry on the screenplay.
A claimed admirer of Goscinny and Uderzo, Fabcaro, whose real name is Fabrice Caro, is in turn a screenwriter, designer, novelist and musician. He made himself known with the comic strip “Zaï zaï zaï zaï” and has just published the novel The Last Days of Weightlessness.
19: Languages and dialects for Asterix
Among the Picts, the Bretons, or even the Belgians or the Helvetii, the Gauls have seen plenty.
But their adventures also interest the whole world and the new opus will be released this Thursday in 19 languages and dialectsincluding English, German and Italian, but also Finnish and Basque.
Please also note that the comic strip “Asterix in Lusitania” will be on sale in 25 pays.
400: Copies sold worldwide
The adventures of Asterix are also about disproportionate numbers. The first print run of his new adventures amounts to five millionincluding two million for France.
In total, 400 million Asterix albums have been sold worldwide since its creation. It’s quite simply the best-selling French comic in the world.
