The Traditional Market of Las Candelas began yesterday in the Plazas Mayor and San Francisco and can be enjoyed until Monday, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with entertainment, workshops, exhibitions and children’s attractions, as well as the tasting and sale of an endless number of artisan products. Maite Sellés from Alicante, coordinator of the company Tempus Aebus, which launched the market, announced at the inauguration that an attempt had been made to “create a space with nods to the slaughter of pigs and products from the Castilian countryside”, to highlight the creations of 68 artisans. On the back side, exhibitions of radios and old posters, sewing machines, a still and farm implements have also been set up.

«There is also no shortage of live artisan jobs such as stonemason, spinner and a lady who makes old alms bags, all in the Plaza de San Francisco, along with the rest of the exhibitors that are located in the Plaza Mayor. In addition, we have musical parades and several children’s attractions for children that are all manual, do not have lights and encourage the imagination,” he said.

Galicia, the Basque Country, Andalusia, Madrid, Extremadura, the Valencian Community, Catalonia and Castilla y León are the regions represented that, among many other things, sell – and in several cases offer for tasting – cheeses, sausages, herbs, spices, leather, silver, jewelry, esparto grass, honey, artisan drinks, sugared almonds, cakes, bread, dried fruit, various sweets, churros and crepes.

«There are a lot of products from different areas of Spain in a very consolidated market. People who come from outside defend themselves well here, they repeat and they are always waiting to see if it is organized. This year the weather has not helped us much, since the number usually exceeds 80 positions. There are people who stayed along the way, since coming from the Basque Country it is easy to get there, but coming up from Andalusia on Thursday three merchants had to return,” he stated.
