The Golden Boot trophy is staying in Louisiana, and the search for a first victory under Bobby Petrino rolls on for Arkansas football.
The Razorbacks (2-8, 0-6 SEC) blew a fourth-quarter lead for the third consecutive game in a 23-22 loss to LSU (6-4, 3-4) on Saturday, Nov. 15. The Hogs have now lost eight consecutive games after committing three turnovers and spoiling multiple strong drives into Tigers’ territory.
The Razorbacks came flying out of the gates. A fumble ruined their first drive of the game, but they took the lead on a blocked punt from Wyatt Simmons that Caleb Wooden returned for a 16-yard touchdown. It represented the Hogs’ first special teams touchdown since 2023 and their first score off a blocked punt since 2009.
After a second straight three-and-out from the LSU offense, Arkansas marched down the field and went up 14-0 midway through the first quarter on an 11-yard run from Taylen Green.
But the offense stalled throughout the remainder of the first half. Green threw two interceptions, including one on second-and-goal from the LSU 9-yard line, and the Tigers scored 16 unanswered points to carry a two-point lead into the intermission.
The Razorbacks dominated the third quarter and re-took the lead on a 9-yard touchdown run from Mike Washington Jr. Arkansas out-gained the Tigers 116-63 in the period and carried a 22-16 advantage into the fourth quarter. It could have been more, but LSU produced a goal-line stand on the Hogs’ first possession of the second half.
Arkansas’ lead disappeared after one LSU drive in the fourth quarter. The Tigers went 92 yards on 12 plays, with Michael Van Buren finding Bauer Sharp for a 12-yard touchdown that gave LSU a 23-22 advantage.
The Razorbacks had one final chance to steal a win, driving deep into Tigers’ territory with their ensuing drive. A third-down pass was dropped by Raylen Sharpe, and freshman Scott Starzyk was wide right on a 48-yard field goal attempt.
The Arkansas offense didn’t get another opportunity, with LSU running out the final 5:08 and finishing the game in victory formation.

Fourth Quarter
Arkansas misses 48-yard field goal
- The Razorbacks can’t take the lead. Freshman Scott Starzyk goes wide right with his kick, and LSU maintains a 23-22 lead with 5:08 remaining.
Touchdown LSU: Michael Van Buren 12-yard pass to Bauer Sharp
- The Tigers go 92 yards and eat up more than six minutes off the clock to take the lead. The Tigers ran four trick plays on the series, and they found the end zone on a third-and-six. Arkansas trails 23-22 with 7:53 remaining.
Third Quarter
Touchdown Arkansas: Mike Washington Jr. 9-yard run
- Taylen Green gives it up on a read-option, and Washington scampers into the end zone to give Arkansas the lead. The Hogs converted a fourth-and-six earlier in the drive Green converted the two-point try. Arkansas holds a 22-16 advantage with 4:02 remaining in the third quarter.
Arkansas gets stuffed at the goal line
- The Razorbacks’ defense forced a punt on LSU’s opening series, and then the Hogs’ offense got all the way down to the Tigers’ 1-yard line. Still, Arkansas couldn’t punch it in, with runs getting stuffed and a Taylen Green sneak coming up short on 4th-and-goal. LSU maintains it’s 16-14 lead with 8:57 on the clock.
Second Quarter
LSU makes 42-yard field goal
- The Tigers used two big runs and a pass interference penalty to get into field goal range, where Damian Ramos converted his third kick of the game. The Tigers will carry a 16-14 lead into halftime.
Taylen Green intercepted by Mansoor Delane
- On second-and-goal from the nine, Taylen Green gets picked off on a pass to O’Mega Blake in the end zone. That’s the second interception from Green and the third turnover from Arkansas this half. There are 33 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
LSU makes 42-yard field goal
- That’s a nice job by the Arkansas defense to force a three-and-out and hold LSU to a field goal. It’s 14-13 Razorbacks with 5:08 on the clock.
Taylen Green intercepted by Harold Perkins Jr.
- The first play of the drive results in an interception. Jaden Platt was wide open underneath, but Taylen Green threw into triple coverage and was picked off.
LSU makes 50-yard field goal
- Damian Ramos nails the long kick after the Tigers’ drive came to a halt. Wyatt Simmons had two key tackles to force a third-and-long that LSU did not convert. It’s 14-10 Hogs with 7:02 remaining in the first half.
Touchdown LSU: Caden Durham 27-yard run
- The Tigers march right down the field and score on the first play of the second period. On third-and-five, LSU dialed up a run right up the middle and into the end zone. Arkansas leads 14-7.
First Quarter
Touchdown Arkansas: Taylen Green 11-yard run
- Green scampers in on a quarterback draw, and the Hogs lead 14-0 with 4:06 remaining in the first quarter. Arkansas converted a pair of fourth downs on that scoring drive. The defense has force two three-and-outs.
Touchdown Arkansas: Blocked punt leads to first score
- The Arkansas defense forced a three-and-out, and Wyatt Simmons blocked the ensuing LSU punt. Caleb Wooden scooped the football and returned it 16 yards for a touchdown. The Hogs lead 7-0 early in the first quarter, and that’s the first special teams touchdown for Arkansas since an Isaiah Sategna punt return against BYU in 2023.
Arkansas football fumbles
- A promising opening drive for the Razorbacks ends with a fumble on third-and-one deep inside LSU territory. A pitch from Taylen Green to Mike Washington Jr. was not caught, and the Tigers recovered the loose ball. Looked like Washington was expecting a regular handoff instead of a pitch on the replay.
Pregame
RB Braylen Russell out vs LSU
- The sophomore was listed as out on the final SEC Availability Report, while defensive end Charlie Collins is a game-time decision. LSU starting quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was also listed as out, so the Hogs will be facing backup Michael Van Buren. The full injury report is here.

Arkansas vs LSU predictions
Jackson Fuller, Southwest Times Record: Among the final three games, this is the Razorbacks’ best chance at a surprise victory. The LSU offense isn’t explosive and the Tigers are dealing with some questions under center, but the Tigers’ defense could give Taylen Green fits. We’ll take the safe route and project another one-score loss for Arkansas. LSU 30, Arkansas 27.
Shannon Belt, Lafayette Daily Advertiser: It may take some time, but LSU’s offense will find its flow with Garrett Nussmeier and Michael Van Buren Jr. sharing the QB1 role. After lots of drops and untimely passes against Alabama, the offense will right the ship against the Razorbacks. Defensively, the Tigers may allow some explosive plays — but they won’t break down too much and will eventually contain Arkansas’ Taylen Green. LSU 30, Arkansas 24.
