In Argentina, up to the epidemiological week (SE) 32 of 2025, 132 cases suspected of hemorrhagic fever of Argentina were reported, in the province of Buenos Aires. Among these, 16 were confirmed in the laboratory, eight were excluded and 108 were classified as suspects. All confirmed cases come from the endemic area of the province of Buenos Aires.

The acquisition of the disease was mainly linked to having lived in rural, semi-rural or peri-urban areas.

Regarding the severity of experienced cases, all required hospitalization. As of August 14, 2025, one of the cases was still in an intensive care unit, another died and the others evolved favorably. The deceased case was that of a 45 -year -old man residing in the San Nicolás district, the case of which had been reported to SE7. Only nine people have received a treatment with immune plasma, and none of the 16 cases had been vaccinated with the candidate vaccine 1. The number of cases confirmed during the first SE of 2025 exceeds that recorded the previous year for the same period, and 10 of the 16 cases are concentrated in the municipality of San Nicolás.

In 2024, 291 cases suspected of Argentine hemorrhagic fever were reported, including 23 confirmed, 176 infirm and 92 suspects. Among the confirmed cases, three deaths were recorded: an 8 -year -old girl in SE 7, a 58 -year -old man in SE 18 and a 34 -year -old man in SE 21.

Argentinian hemorrhagic fever is a disease avoidable by vaccination, the number of cases of which increases seasonally between March and October in the endemic area. The mortality rate without treatment is between 15 % and 30 %, and is reduced to almost 1 % when a specific treatment (immun plasma with standardized doses of neutralizing antibodies) is applied within the first 8 days of the appearance of symptoms.

The Candida Vaccination Strategy 1 aims to reduce morbidity and mortality linked to the hemorrhagic fever of Argentina within the population residing or passing through the endemic area of this disease. The target population of the province of Buenos Aires is made up of people over the age of 15 residing or working in the province of Buenos Aires.

Vaccination efforts continue to be reinforced, which has increased the number of people vaccinated in the endemic area. However, vaccination coverage remains very low, the majority of the population not being vaccinated.
