Apple Watch Hypertension: Australia Release Date

JAKARTA – Apple Watch users in Australia will soon be able to take advantage of the hypertension notification feature, after the country’s health authorities gave official approval. However, Apple has not announced the exact launch date for this feature.

The hypertension detection feature on the Apple Watch was first introduced in September 2025. Through this feature, the Apple Watch can monitor indications of high blood pressure and provide a warning to users to immediately seek medical treatment. However, activating this feature must first be done via a connected iPhone.

According to reports Information AgeAustralia’s medical regulator, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), has officially approved the feature. With this approval, the Apple Watch has also been registered as an internal medical device Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).

Chief medical officer Heart Foundation AustraliaProfessor Garry Jennings, welcomed the move. He views the TGA approval as a positive development in efforts to increase public awareness of high blood pressure.

“This approach is not a single solution to hypertension, but it can help raise awareness among some people about high blood pressure,” said Professor Jennings. He added that health technology like this encourages people to be more active in monitoring the risk of heart disease, stroke and other complications due to hypertension from an early age.

Even though it has received the green light from the regulator, TGA approval does not mean that this feature can be used immediately. This means that Apple is now legally allowed to activate this feature in Australia, but the decision on when to launch it is entirely in the hands of Apple Australia, which has not yet provided an official statement.

More than 150 countries have already approved the Apple Watch’s hypertension notification feature, with Canada being the latest country to grant approval in October 2025. In most countries, Apple is known to enable the feature shortly after regulatory approval is issued, so it’s likely a similar feature will be coming to Australia soon.

Apple is expected to enable this feature along with the next watchOS operating system update. The last watchOS update was released on December 12, 2025, which included a number of adjustments, including Wi-Fi changes in accordance with European Union regulations.

Currently, the Australian online Apple Store does not display promotions related to the hypertension notification feature, and Apple’s support documentation does not list Australia as a country that supports the feature.
