The most anticipated apple product of the spring is here. Apple is typically not a company that would attack with price, but exactly the new one MacBook Neo does It costs CZK 16,990 with a storage capacity of 256 GB, for CZK 19,990 there is double 512 GB. With a student discount, it’s even just 14,290 CZKrespectively 16,990 CZK. The pre-sale is already running, the sale will start on Wednesday, March 11.

Brighter colors are also aimed at a younger audience, but the question is what are the compromises in equipment. The most obvious one is the processor – instead of the traditional Apple M series computer chips, it’s inside the A18 Pro from the iPhones. This of course means lower performance, but Apple hasn’t said much about it, other than that it’s supposed to be Neo twice as fast when editing photos, three times as fast when working with AI and generally 50% faster than the best-selling laptop with the latest generation Core Ultra 5. This is simply a poor comparison, competitors give more specific numbers and more precise specifications of what they measure.

In both variants, you only get 8 GB of RAM and you can’t buy more. By the way, the Neo weighs the same per gram as the MacBook Air presented yesterday:

Neo has a design based on the last generation of Air, but it is a little smaller because uses a 13″ display instead of 13.6″. Along with it, the resolution has also decreased, but Apple still sticks to the delicacy of 219 ppi. It only has 60 Hz, but pleases with a higher brightness of 500 nits. Unlike other MacBooks, however, it does not have a sensor for automatically changing the color temperature according to the ambient light. It does not even have a wide color range (P3), Apple only aimed it at the sRGB color space. It also has a thicker frame and no cutout. The webcam is only basic 1080p (no 12Mpx Center Stage like Air and Pro).

The classic mechanical trackpad that physically clicks across its surface is back. The keyboard is not backlit. Only with more memory you get a Touch ID fingerprint reader. There are two speakers and two microphones in the body (four speakers and three microphones in the Air).

Neo lasts up to 16 hours of video playback or 11 hours of surfing, which are lower values ​​than MacBook Airs, but still above average in the given class. It only charges via USB-C, MagSafe is missing. The first card transfers up to 10 Gb/s, the second only works in slow USB 2.0 mode (480 Mb/s). Thunderbolts are missing. The 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones seems a bit archaic, it does not support high-impedance models. And forget dynamic surround sound when using AirPods. The package does not include a power adapter, only a USB cable.

Especially with the school discount, the MacBook Neo looks like an attractive device that can really serve as a good alternative to cheap Chromebooks or Windows PCs. However, those who really want a Mac will do well to look for older generations of Air in sales, which will be better in every way.
