Apple M5 & New MacBook Pro: Official Launch Details

After a series of rumors and alleged leaks, the Apple M5 chipset and the first computer with the chip – the new 14-inch Macbook Pro – have been officially unveiled.

Apple has now introduced the first model from its fifth generation of proprietary system circuits. The circuit goes by the name M5 and a Pro as well as Max variant is expected to be launched in the near future.

The Apple M5 comes with ten processor cores and ten graphics cores. Each graphics core also houses a Neural Accelerator and all in all, according to Apple, the M5 should offer up to 3.5 times the AI performance and 1.6 times the graphics performance compared to the Apple M4. Apple also compares the performance with the aging Macbook Pro models that came equipped with circuits from Intel. Compared to these, the M5 should offer up to 86 times higher AI performance and up to 30 times higher graphics performance, according to Apple.

The Apple M5 comes with a 16-core Neural Engine and a bandwidth of 153 GB/s with its unified memory. That is, 30 percent higher bandwidth than the previous generation. The circuit can be paired with up to 32 gigabytes of unified memory and, unsurprisingly, Apple is more than happy to talk about how good the circuit should be for AI-focused work.

The Apple M5 is initially only available in the new 14-inch Macbook Pro. Apple has not confirmed any larger 16-inch models or other devices to be equipped with the circuit. However, it is more or less a given that these will be launched at regular intervals in the coming time.

New Macbook Pro with Apple M5 starts at SEK 20,995. This with 16 gigabytes of unified memory and 512 gigabytes of storage capacity. The price tag extends up to SEK 26,995 at most, and then 24 gigabytes of uniform memory and 1 terabyte of storage capacity apply. The new computers can be pre-ordered via Apple’s website and are expected to arrive physically on October 22.
