The sci-fi action-adventure game PRAGMATA is scheduled to release on April 24 on multiple platforms, with the demo already delivering a polished look on PC with a high and stable framerate, coupled with stunning visuals, all thanks to Capcom’s RE Engine. Given that the Japanese video game developer has released several Resident Evil ports for macOS, it is a head-scratcher, as there’s no telling if the upcoming IP will arrive for Apple Silicon Macs. While that question remains unanswered, one M4 Max owner tested a non-native version of PRAGMATA on his machine, reporting solid performance with all settings set to their maximum values and with no upscaling or interpolation involved.
On Reddit, ‘Equivalent-Pair6064’ fired up Crossover 26 beta 1 on his M4 Max-powered Mac Studio equipped with a 16-core CPU and a 40-core GPU. The results are impressive, given that there’s a translation layer in between the operating system that helps run the game, meaning that a performance loss is inevitable. Despite this setback, PRAGMATA can easily obtain 97FPS in the first area of the demo, and if upscaling or frame generation were enabled, the M4 Max Mac Studio would stand to experience even higher performance.
Unfortunately, there’s no update from Capcom on whether this title will arrive on macOS. A possibility exists where Apple Silicon Mac owners will have to enjoy the non-native version of PRAGMATA because there aren’t that many sales garnered on the App Store for previous games from the developer. For instance, the last time we reported about these numbers, the Resident Evil 7 launch on iOS didn’t even generate $30,000 in sales for Capcom, with Resident Evil 2 Remake failing to cross 10,000 sales on the same platform.

In short, the money and effort required to port these titles to macOS may not be worth the investment. Also, to compare the M4 Max’s performance, we fired up the PRAGMATA demo on our laptop RTX 4090 gaming laptop using the same settings, and while we did obtain higher performance than the 40-core Apple Silicon, it will be interesting to see the results for a native port. Also, when turning up DLSS, Frame Generatio,n and the resolution, we get an even higher FPS boost, showing that these technologies are a ‘must have’ to get a smoother experience.
