“Amber Latvijas Balzams” is seeking legal protection
The beverage manufacturer AS “Amber Latvijas balzams” has submitted an application to start the legal protection process (TAP) in the Riga city court. The goal is to restructure financial obligations, ensuring the continuity of the company’s operations and reaching an agreement with creditors. The company explains that the decision was influenced by several factors, including the divestment of assets in Russia, cyber attacks and the complexities of global spirits markets, which have created cash flow problems and delayed excise tax payments. Business operations will continue as usual during the TAP.
Digital solutions and consumption trends in Latvia
In Latvia, the introduction of new digital solutions can be observed, such as the “112 Latvia” app, which helps people in stressful situations to receive help and information about possible threats faster. At the same time, the population of Latvia spent more cautiously in December than merchants had hoped, however, moderate retail sales growth is expected in 2026, as wage growth will continue to exceed inflation. Economists predict that purchasing power will improve, especially in segments related to the realization of deferred purchases.

State President Edgars Rinkēvičs has met with the President of the Bank of Latvia, Mārtiņas Kazākas, to discuss the economic dynamics of the past year and future forecasts. Changes in the consumer lending supervision model and planned measures to simplify the recrediting process for legal entities were also discussed.
