Apple’s AirPods Max over-ear headphones, introduced in 2020, remain highly regarded for their sound quality, but lag behind the company’s more compact models when it comes to smart features. On the evening of March 16, Apple presented the upgrade to the AirPods Max 2. The design is similar to the previous model, but the improvements are mainly focused on the hardware, including the H2 chip, optimized active noise cancellation and a number of smart functions.
According to Apple, the AirPods Max 2’s new audio processing algorithm improves active noise cancellation by 1.5 times compared to the previous generation. This blocks out background noise such as airplane or train noises more effectively, allowing users to concentrate better.
The AirPods Max 2’s Transparency mode also works better thanks to a new arrangement of microphones and processing algorithms, resulting in a more natural sound experience when listening to ambient noise.
According to Apple, the AirPods Max 2 feature a new amplifier that provides clearer sound. The quality of content with spatial audio effects has also been improved.
The AirPods Max 2 supports 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless music formats when using a USB-C cable. In addition to improved sound quality, the wired connection also offers lower latency, optimizing performance in applications such as Logic Pro with content that supports personalized spatial audio.
For the average user, the AirPods Max 2 offer lower latency when connected wirelessly, making them suitable for gaming via Game Mode on iPhones, iPads and Macs.
The power of the H2 chip allows Apple to integrate a number of intelligent features into the AirPods Max 2, features that have already been used in some models such as the AirPods 4 and the AirPods Pro 3.
The first feature is Adaptive Audio, which allows the headphones to automatically adjust noise cancellation and transparency based on the environment. At the same time, conversation recognition automatically reduces the music volume and increases speech intelligibility when the user speaks.
Voice isolation also supports noise filtering during calls and recordings. Particularly noteworthy is the live translation, which enables real-time translation of conversations thanks to Apple Intelligence. Users can also remotely control photo and video recordings using the Digital Crown on the headset.

Apple is also targeting content creators with the AirPods Max 2 as they have “studio-quality” recording capabilities that help record more natural voices during interviews or podcasts.
Thanks to the “noise reduction” function, loud ambient noises are automatically muffled to protect hearing. Personalized volume automatically adjusts the volume to suit the user’s listening habits. Siri can also be controlled by moving your head.
The AirPods Max 2 offer up to 20 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation and spatial audio. When used with Apple devices, they support automatic device switching and audio transfer with other AirPods.
The headphones are available in five colors: midnight gray, starlight, blue, purple and orange. In Vietnam, users can pre-order the AirPods Max 2 from March 25th; Delivery is expected in early April at a price of VND 15 million.
