Apple Chatbot: Siri Upgrade Coming This Fall?

Years after its main rivals, Apple would finally launch its own chatbot. It would replace the current text interface of Siri and allow you to discuss anything and everything, without forgetting many other new functions for the assistant.

It is in the spring, probably with iOS 26.4, that we should finally be entitled to the version of SirithatApple had promised in 2024. In the meantime, the manufacturer realized that its AI models were not sufficiently efficient to achieve the miracles announced; the Apple firm will finally adopt (and adapt) Google’s Gemini models.

Chatting to Siri

With this new brain, Siri would eventually be able to carry on conversations in a much more natural way than today. The assistant will also be able to dig through application data to find relevant information, which will allow it to answer questions in a relevant and personalized way.

In June, Apple is also expected to introduce new features for Siri, such as the ability to remember previous chats and perform actions proactively (notice to leave now for the airport to meet a friend who is going to land, for example).

But all this is only the first piece in a big puzzle. Bloomberg reveals this evening that Apple should launch a new interface this fall which will bring the assistant closer to a chatbot, like ChatGPT or Claude. The function, called “Campos” internally, could be presented in June during WWDC, with a launch scheduled for September in the baggage of iOS 27 and macOS 27.

While it is currently already possible to ask Siri questions by text, the assistant’s responses are miserable, except when it refers to ChatGPT. Apple is reportedly testing several bots internally; MacWorld has just revealed two new ones: “Enchanté”, which employees use to reread and correct their work, reflect on and develop ideas and obtain general knowledge answers, just like what ChatGPT can offer. And “Enterprise Assistant,” which would function as a knowledge center for Apple products.

But until now, there has never been any question of developing a chatbot for the general public. This is what should change this fall. Apple will certainly be a train or two behind the competition, but this Siri bot will have some arguments to make, starting with deep integration with the operating system. It would thus be able to analyze open windows and the content displayed on the screen to propose actions, control the device settings and launch functions such as calls, timers or the camera.

This Siri bot would rely on Google’s advanced AI models, with capabilities comparable to those of Gemini 3. They form the basis of version 11 of the Apple foundation models. The assistant that will be delivered with iOS 26.4 will be based on version 10 of these same models, based on less powerful Gemini models (1,200 billion parameters).

The intelligence of the spring version of Siri would be operated on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute servers, a guarantee of better data confidentiality. On the other hand, the bot could be supported directly by Google servers.

In any case, the Cupertino manufacturer would have designed “Campos” in such a way that it could replace models over time. In other words, it leaves itself the possibility of moving from Gemini to something else, its own models or those of a third-party partner. Which will not be useless for the Chinese market, where Apple Intelligence is still not available.
