This is how the famous statement attributed to Winston Churchill could be paraphrased in response to how CT reported on the lynching of 23-year-old student Quentin Deranque by left-wing extremists from the Antifa movement.
Their victim eventually succumbed to the injuries sustained in the attack. And this is how ČT reported about him even before the young man’s death:
„A 23-year-old far-right activist who, according to others, was attacked by anti-fascists, is in a serious condition in a hospital in Lyon, French media reports. This happened at the event of a member of the European Parliament from the Unsubdued France party.“
In short, she turned the victim into an “extreme right-wing activist”, the attackers into “anti-fascists” and tries to create the impression that it was actually an ordinary “fight”, which unfortunately ended tragically. However, witnesses describe the event quite differently. According to them, the young man ensured the protection of women from the feminist organization Collectif Némésis, against a possible attack by left-wing extremists. After the event, he was then attacked by several dozen left-wing extremists from the Antifa movement and brutally kicked while lying on the ground. In the process, he suffered serious head injuries, which he later unfortunately succumbed to. So no “fight”, but the lynching of a defenseless young man by a group of extremists.
This is not the first time that Antifa has used fascist methods. That is, violence and intimidation of their opponents and, in fact, anyone they see as an opponent. After all, it has already been designated as a terrorist organization in the USA and Hungary. And considering how she calls herself, the famous statement about “fascists who call themselves anti-fascists” like an ass on a pot. And it doesn’t really matter that Winston Churchill didn’t actually say it.
However, this case and its interpretation is just another proof of a disturbing phenomenon of the present, when we are constantly warned about the rise of right-wing extremism, an “irreconcilable fight” is declared against it and “sanitary cordons” are being built, while the rampage of left-wing extremists is increasing in intensity.
A few weeks earlier, they “distinguished themselves” in Berlin, for example, where one such gang known as the “Volcano Gruppe” cut off the electricity supply for several days. They reasoned that “saving the climate” and by necessity “stop the looting of the country“. How else. This is by no means their first attack. And there are others following the extreme left who can be included under the common label of “ecoterrorism”. Whether it’s various roadblocks, sticking to roads or destroying works of art.
We usually hear about these acts from abroad. Although we have also seen several similar events in the Czech Republic. In our country, however, left-wing extremists are rampant in other areas as well. Let’s remember, for example, their violent blockade of the March for Life last year. What is alarming about this case is the failure of the Police, who failed to ensure the right of its participants to freely assemble and express their opinion. What more? Romana Bělohlávková, a member of the KDU-ČSL at the time, expressed her suspicion that it was not a failure, but even an intention. In short, left-wing extremists violently blocked the march of people whose views they did not agree with. Can you imagine what would happen if someone blocked the Prague Pride parade for the same reason? Then again, all the “correct” politicians would compete with each other in how vigorously they should deal with right-wing extremists.
Another disgusting action by left-wing extremists was, for example, the hanging of Palestinian flags on university buildings on October 7, 2025. That is, on the second anniversary of the attack by Palestinian terrorists on Israel, in which 1,200 people were murdered and 251 were kidnapped, some of whom later also died. True, many people condemned the display of flags, but that was all. There was simply no “building barriers” to left-wing extremism.
Instead, he repeatedly warns against right-wing extremists. So let’s see what they’ve been up to lately. There isn’t much. They are sometimes accused of anti-Semitic attacks, but it is questionable whether they are really always the perpetrators. Indeed, anti-Semitism is also spreading among the ranks of left-wing pro-Palestinian activists and is also firmly rooted among members of the Muslim minority, who have hatred of Jews in their genes, so to speak.
Probably the most prominent action of the right-wing extremists was the meeting of AfD and CDU politicians the year before last, at which a “secret plan” was to be created for the mass expulsion of German citizens of migrant origin. The editorial team of the Correctiv portal came up with this information, it was gradually taken over by the big media in Germany, and hundreds of thousands of demonstrations against the extreme right followed. From our media, it was disseminated by the public broadcasters CT and CRo, as well as Deník N and SeznamZprávy. However, a court in Hamburg later confirmed that it was all a hoax and that there was no “secret plan”. Guess how many of our media outlets that previously reported on him got everything right. The one who guessed that neither was right.
The fact that the “secret plan” turned out to be a duck from the Correctiv editors’ workshop, and that the right-wing extremists do not show themselves much, of course, does not mean that there are none and that they are some sheep. However, in my opinion, they are not as much of a threat as is repeatedly presented to us and that their left-wing “colleagues” are significantly more dangerous, and their actions, on the other hand, do not receive such attention. And when they can no longer escape it, the whole event is trivialized, as CT demonstrated in the case of the lynching of that young man by Antifa. Although it must be acknowledged that this time there were media that brought a different view of this event (here or here).
However, this does not change the fact that overlooking and trivializing the actions of left-wing extremists is a dangerous game with fire. Similarly, they overlooked one type of extremists in interwar Germany. The reason was simple – even at that time, the more dangerous variety seemed different to them.
This trivialization cost the lives of tens of millions of people…
