Le Phare de Chambéry is preparing to host one of the largest amateur MMA events ever organized in France.Among the fighters is Anthony Nantois, originally from Savoy and a Paris firefighter, who is preparing for an intense moment. At 30 years old, he returns to his homeland, where he grew up, to compete in a fight within the discipline he has gradually adopted: MMA.
From his childhood at the judo Club de Barberaz to his experiences in boxing and Sambo Combat, Anthony has built a diverse background in combat sports. After a career as a volunteer firefighter in Chambéry and then as a professional in Paris, he found in MMA a discipline that brings together all his passions for judo, wrestling, and boxing.
The “Sanglier” (Wild boar) Nickname: A Meaningful Symbol
Why “le Sanglier”? For Anthony, this animal embodies robustness and tenacity. “There is nothing stronger than a wild boar,” he explains, recalling an anecdote from his youth where a wild boar damaged his car but remained unharmed. “It’s an animal that charges, even when injured, and it’s this tenacity that I try to bring to my fight.”
MMA: A Demanding Yet Liberating Discipline
“On a un coach mental qui nous aide à visualiser les combats. Le jour J, on est beaucoup plus concentré et moins stressé.”
As the event approaches, Anthony shares that while he feels excitement about fighting in front of his family and friends, mental preparation is essential. “We have a mental coach who helps us visualize the fights. On the day, we are much more focused and less stressed.”
What attracts Anthony to MMA, beyond the physical aspect, is what he calls “freedom.” “it’s a form of martial dance, where you can do anything, test anything. It’s a constant surpassing of oneself,” he explains.
Clear Goals and High Motivation
A French champion in 2022,Anthony does not set long-term goals, preferring to focus on the essential: “The immediate goal is to win in front of the people of Savoie and make my family and friends proud.” As this decisive duel approaches, his determination is unwavering.
A fighter with a strong character, unafraid to push himself in a sport known for its violence. For Anthony, the adrenaline and competitive spirit are nothing compared to what he experienced as a firefighter. “In a fire, you really risk your life. In the cage, injury is possible, but it’s never as serious.”
