Ant International is collaborating on the launch of Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), a new open standard for agentic commerce that covers the entire shopping journey: from discovery to purchase to after-sales support. The UCP establishes a common language for agents and systems to work together across all consumer, business and payment provider interfaces to facilitate commerce. So, instead of requiring unique connections for each agent, UCP allows all agents to interact easily.
UCP is designed to work across industries and is compatible with existing industry protocols such as Agent2Agent (A2A), Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), and Model Context Protocol (MCP). Powered by UCP, AI interfaces — such as the Gemini app or AI mode in Google Search — are evolving. They will soon allow users to finalize their purchases directly within the chat interface.
