Eid Holiday Travel: Balancing Tourism and Local Transport in Puncak
As the Eid al-Fitr holiday brings an influx of tourists to the Puncak area of Bogor Regency, West Java, local authorities are implementing measures to manage traffic and ensure a smooth experience for visitors. A key component of this strategy involves temporary restrictions on angkot (urban transportation) operations.
Angkot Restrictions During Lebaran: A Necessary Measure?
During the H+1 to H+7 Lebaran period, angkot were initially requested to cease operations in the Puncak area. This decision, aimed at minimizing congestion, has faced some resistance. Some drivers, citing a lack of received compensation, continued to operate, leading to a “cat and mouse” situation with Bogor Regency Transportation Agency officers.
the point is that we have agreed to execute, as for what we had acted, it was directed to an option route. While this has been four (which has been dealt with).
Officers have been redirecting operating angkot to alternative routes. As of the latest reports, four vehicles have been addressed. The situation highlights the challenges of balancing traffic management with the economic needs of local transport providers.
Compensation and Evaluation: Addressing Driver Concerns
The bogor Regency Transportation Agency acknowledges the concerns of angkot drivers who feel they haven’t received adequate compensation for the operational restrictions. Authorities are currently evaluating the situation and reviewing data to determine the number of vehicles that have not received subsidies.
But still I say we have an agreement maybe we will evaluate how many vehicles have not got the subsidy. We try the data, friends are on the field.
This evaluation aims to ensure fair treatment and potentially adjust compensation distribution in the future. The West Java Provincial Government has previously stated that compensation in the form of food and cash was provided to angkot drivers in exchange for ceasing operations during the specified period.
Government Initiatives for Smooth Holiday Travel
Bogor Regent, Rudy susmanto, previously stated the government provided compensation for assistance in the form of food and cash.

The West Java Provincial Transportation Office has coordinated with land transportation organizations to stop public transportation operations in that period. As compensation, public transportation drivers have been given assistance in the form of food and cash.
The West Java Provincial Government’s initiative to restrict angkot operations is part of a broader effort to ensure a comfortable and safe vacation experience for tourists visiting Bogor Regency, particularly the popular Cisarua region. The area typically experiences peak crowding on H+1 and H+2 of Eid al-Fitr.
Looking Ahead: Balancing Tourism and Local Needs
The situation in Puncak highlights the ongoing need for effective traffic management strategies during peak tourist seasons. Finding a balance between accommodating visitors and supporting the livelihoods of local transportation providers remains a key challenge for authorities. Continuous evaluation and adaptation of policies will be crucial to ensuring a positive experience for both tourists and residents in the years to come.
