Android PCs: Qualcomm & Google Partnership Confirmed

by Archynetys Technology & Science Desk

Last July, a leak revealed that Google was preparing the convergence between Chromeos and Android. The announcement had then aroused a lot of speculation. Since the Qualcomm Summit 2025, the intentions of the Californian giant are clearing: Google and Qualcomm work hand in hand to bring out a new generation of PC operating under Android.

Chromeos, despite more than ten years of existence, has never really pierced beyond the education market in the United States. Chromebooks have found their place in classrooms, but have not managed to massively attract the general public or businesses. Google explored lots of different tracks to extend the scope of its Chromeos, in particular by adding a certain compatibility with Android and Linux applications or by producing its Chromeos Flex to seduce PC owners looking for a replacement at Windows 10. So many projects without great success. At the same time, the American giant has a time seemed to want to transform Android, even abandon it, by pursuing mobility projects like Fuschia OS.

Finally, total situation reversal, Google now seems to bet everything on Android again. It is Android in its XR vision which is intended to animate the future generation of extensive reality glasses and XR headsets.

Especially Google seems to definitely decide to turn the Chromeos page by making its two platforms more or less converge. Objective, to bet everything on Android by enriching it with real office features (even if it means drawing inspiration from Chromeos and what Apple has magnificently succeeded with the latest version of iPados and its really “desktop style”) and obviously advanced IA features on board and led by Gemini.

The wedding of Chromeos and Android will give birth to Android PC under Snapdragon X2

During the Qualcomm Summit which was held in Hawaii this week, Qualcomm and Google “tease” the next arrival (probably at the end of 2026) of the “Android PC”! Sameer Samat, manager of the Android ecosystem, confirmed that ” The Chromeos experience will stay, but its technological basis will now be Android ». Clearly, future computers stamped Google will no longer run on a parallel system, but on a version of Android adapted to large screens and productivity uses.

For his part, the pattern of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, did not hide his enthusiasm: ” I saw the project, it’s incredible. It concretizes the vision of convergence between mobile and PC. I can’t wait to have one ». A statement that highlights the ambition of this partnership: offer a credible alternative to Windows and MacOS, based on the power of new Snapdragon X2 Elite chips and on the Android apps and game ecosystem.

Rick Osterloh, vice-president in charge of devices and services at Google, barely unveiled on the strategy explaining: ” We build a common technical basis together for our products on PC and office systems. It is a way of taking advantage of all the work accomplished on our AI stack, with the Gemini models, the assistant and the whole of the community of applications and developers ».

The idea is not only to run mobile applications on a laptop, but to offer a complete desktop experience, with advanced window management, compatibility with external screens and native IA integration. Google promises that Gemini, already omnipresent on smartphones, will be at the heart of these new PCs.

There is still a lot to do to offer the continuous experience between Android and Android smartphone PC which everyone expects. Microsoft has taken years to get reliable and really make its “connected” app for Windows. It is clear that the firm ended up getting there and that the last version are really successful. But we can go even further in integration as Apple demonstrated. On paper, an “Android PC” is a very nice promise. But it won’t be easy to counter Windows for all that. Nevertheless, Android PC will land on a still new and emerging market: that of Copilot+ PC or “AI PC”. And that gives him more likely to find his place quickly.

On the other hand, the announcement of future Android PC sheds lights under a new light the acquisition last year of Cameyo by Google. Its Windows applications virtualization technology would meet user and companies needs to keep Windows applications while adopting Android PC.

Android benefits from incomparable notoriety and adoption. If Google manages to transpose this force to the PC, the market balance could be deeply upset. Microsoft really has something to worry about.
