Google has been diligently working on a comprehensive “Battery Health” settings page for Pixel devices, a project initiated in October 2022. Recent updates in Android 16 Beta 2 suggest that significant progress is being made, offering users a more detailed insight into their device’s battery status and performance.
About APK Insight: In this “APK Insight” post, we have decompiled the latest version of an application that Google uploaded to the Play Store. By dissecting these application files (known as APKs for Android apps), we can uncover hints at potential future features. While it’s important to note that Google may not release these features, we provide our interpretation based on the available code. Some features displayed might be more developed than others, and we attempt to enable those closer to completion to give a preview of what they will look like when released.
The latest version, 1.1.0.717462792 of Settings Services, includes updates about the Battery Health page. These changes build upon the previous version 1.1.0.697513890 used in Android 15 and Android 16 Beta 1.

Below is a preview of the Battery Health feature in Android 16 Beta 2, as we enabled it on a Pixel device:

Battery Capacity: An Important Metric
One of the standout features of the Battery Health page is the “Battery capacity” metric. This indicator shows the estimated percentage of charge the battery can currently hold compared to a brand new one. This is a crucial metric for understanding battery degradation over time.
The battery capacity shown above is before recalibration. It may change after recalibration is complete.
Recalibration Process
To ensure accuracy, Google introduces a recalibration feature. This process can take several weeks to complete, during which the device will automatically calibrate itself to provide the most accurate battery capacity reading. According to Google, once recalibration is complete, the battery capacity reading will be updated.

Reduced Battery Capacity
It’s worth noting that reduced battery capacity might result in shorter battery life between charges. This new feature will help users identify this issue and potentially take steps to mitigate the impact.
When the battery capacity is reduced, Google advises users that they may notice their battery lasting less time between charges. This transparency can empower users to manage their device’s performance and battery care more effectively.
Future of Battery Health on Pixel Devices
The inclusion of Battery Health settings page in Android 16 Beta 2 represents a significant step forward in Google’s commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate information about device battery health. Access to such detailed data empowers users to make informed decisions about their device maintenance and battery usage.
However, it remains uncertain whether these features will be officially launched with Android 16. Previous battery health enhancements, such as device temperature monitoring introduced in December, indicate a continued focus on improving battery management features.
We will continue to monitor updates to Android and keep you informed of any new developments. Google’s efforts to enhance battery management on Pixel devices are commendable, offering users valuable insights into how to extend their device’s battery life.
