Amal Clooney: Arab Outcry Over Muslim Brotherhood Constitution

by Archynetys News Desk

The British newspaper “Daily Mail” said that George Clooney sparked widespread anger in Egypt and the Arab world after he revealed that his wife, lawyer Amal Alamuddin, was advising the banned Brotherhood and helping them write the constitution.

The newspaper quoted one of the commentators: George Clooney tells you that the constitution that is supposed to be yours was written by the Brotherhood in London by Amal Alamuddin. An unexpected scandal. Thank you, Mr. Clooney.”

In a television clip that spread widely on social media in the Middle East, Clooney sparked anger after he revealed Amal’s role with the group, as he said, speaking about their relationship and her work: “She said: Yes, I am in a meeting in the Brotherhood now.” “I will come to you immediately,” because she was in the midst of trying to rewrite a constitution for the Egyptians.

The British newspaper said that the group imposed a constitution that thousands protested against.

While Arab commentators lined up to criticize Amal, sources close to her denied working or providing any advice to the Brotherhood.

But the lawyer, an Oxford University graduate, was at the time advising the Human Rights Institute of the International Bar Association, investigating whether Egypt’s new constitution was compatible with “international guarantees of human rights.” As part of this work, Amal conducted interviews with dozens of people, some of them in London, according to the newspaper.
