Carlos Alcaraz announced this Wednesday, through a statement on social networks, the end of his professional relationship with Juan Carlos Ferrero, his coach since August 2018 when he was still 15 years old.

“It is very difficult for me to write this post. After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as a coach and player,” says the No. 1 in the PIF ATP Rankings in a statement released through his official Instagram account.

For more than seven seasons together, Ferrero has accompanied the current world No. 1’s entire professional career so far. Along the way, the Murcian has collected 24 titles – six of them Grand Slam – and has occupied first place in the world rankings for 50 weeks.

“Thank you for making my childhood dreams come true. We started this path when I was just a kid, and throughout this time you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the track. I have thoroughly enjoyed every step with you,” the writing continues.

“We have managed to reach the top, and I feel that, if our sporting paths had to separate, it had to be from up there. From the place for which we always worked and to which we always aspired to reach,” he confesses about the long professional relationship.

The former world No. 1 has guided Alcaraz in all his ‘firsts’. From his debut in an ATP Tour main draw against Albert Ramos Viñolas in Rio de Janeiro 2020, his entry into the Top 100 in 2021, his first ATP Tour title in Umag 2021, the first ATP Masters 1000 in Miami 2022, his first Grand Slam at the US Open 2022 or his assault on No. 1 at the age of 19, being the youngest in history to achieve it.

“There are so many memories that come to mind that keeping just one would not be fair. You have made me grow as an athlete, but above all as a person. And something that I value very much: I have enjoyed the process. I am left with that, with the path we have traveled together,” reveals Alcaraz.

Likewise, Ferrero’s work has been recognized twice by his colleagues as ATP Coach of the year. Without going any further, this same season he received the award along with Samuel López, while in 2022 he was awarded for the first time. He is the only coach who has managed to repeat in this category of the ATP Awards.

“Now are times of change for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I am certain that we will face them in the right way, giving our best, as we have always done. Always adding,” the Spaniard closes before a last message: “I wish you the best from the bottom of my heart in everything that comes. I am left with the peace of mind of knowing that we have not left anything to give, that we have put everything at each other’s disposal.”
