Alberto Orlando died in Pietrelcina at the age of 105
Alberto Orlando passed away at the age of 105, considered the last lay person to have had a direct relationship of familiarity with Saint Pio of Pietrelcina. His passing marks the end of a human and spiritual bond with one of the most beloved figures of the twentieth century.
Originally from Pietrelcina, Alberto spent a good part of his life bearing witness to the figure of Padre Pio with simplicity and depth, in his Roman Plain, telling all the pilgrims he encountered, anecdotes.
In March 2018, on the occasion of Pope Francis’ pastoral visit to Pietrelcina and San Giovanni Rotondo, Alberto was present among the faithful and witnesses of that historic event, also experiencing that moment of prayer and unity in Padre Pio’s hometown.
With his simple but profound testimony, Alberto contributed to keeping the memory of Padre Pio alive not only as a saint, but as a man of faith and humanity. His memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew him and those who listened to his stories.
Rest in peace, Alberto — thank you for sharing your life and faith with all of us.
