Here’s how Al Roker has maintained his weight loss for over 20 years.
🔶 CITY, STATE – Al Roker, the beloved weatherman from Today, has openly discussed his journey with weight loss, particularly after undergoing gastric bypass surgery in 2001. Now, at 70, Roker shares his tried-and-true tips for maintaining a healthy weight as he ages.
In a recent cover interview with People,Roker emphasized that there’s “no magic bullet” for weight loss, not even surgery or GLP-1 medications. He stresses the importance of consistent effort and pushing oneself to stay on track.
Roker’s approach to maintaining his weight loss focuses on three key areas:
- Daily Exercise: Roker makes exercise a non-negotiable part of his routine, even if it’s just a quick walk. He aims for 10 minutes of weight training using Start TODAY’s fitness app to maintain bone strength and flexibility. Additionally, he sets a daily goal of 10,000 steps, incorporating movement throughout his day.
- Consistent and Moderate diet: Roker avoids strict deprivation, opting for moderation when it comes to his favorite foods. He maintains consistency with breakfast and lunch, choosing yogurt, granola, and fruit for breakfast, followed by a protein-focused midday meal.Dinners vary but always include olive oil and roasted vegetables, frequently enough with chicken or fish. Roker also adheres to a no-phones-at-the-dinner-table rule to promote mindful eating.
- Daily Weigh-Ins: Roker steps on the scale every day to stay grounded and monitor his progress. He understands that fluctuations are normal and uses the scale as a tool to keep himself on track rather than as a form of punishment.
Roker hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others on similar paths to feel less alone and more empowered to achieve their goals. “My feeling is if you look at me and I can do this,” he said, “Probably you can to.”
