AI Wrote Resident Evil Requiem Test | Metacritic Response

Resident Evil Requiem was released this morning, and according to the testers, it did particularly well: it has 88 points on Metacritic, a better rating than only the older parts of the series and the remakes. However, the fact that it turned out that one of the tests listed by Metacritic was written with artificial intelligence slightly interferes with the overall picture.

The test was published on the UK-based Videogamer.com website. Its author is a certain Brian Merrygold, who, however, does not appear to be a real person, as his photo has the line “ChatGPT-Image” in its file name. Videogamer was acquired by Clickout Media in August of last year, and the magazine’s editorial staff was fired in early February, according to a report, to focus on AI-generated content. Videogamer now features mostly gambling related material.

Videogamer’s tester gave Requiem a score of 9/10 and wrote that it was a “bloody, glorious finale that fans deserved.” Merrygold is described in the website’s short description as “a sports betting analyst who evaluates the innovations shaping the modern gambling entertainment industry.”

Metacritic later removed the test from their site, and they also got rid of other articles from Videogamer. PC Gamer was told that Metacritic is a “reputable source of criticism” and that they carefully select what writings appear on them. However, in cases where they sell a paper or their writers leave, they may run into AI-generated tests. Such materials will be removed immediately, and the newspaper that published them will be disconnected while the matter is reviewed.
