AI Job Crisis: The Coming ‘Jobpocalypse

by Archynetys Economy Desk

A crisis that will especially affect young people with little work experience, already largely replaced by AI in many companies.

In order to find their first job today, freshly graduated students not only have to deal with competition from their peers, but also and above all with that of artificial intelligence. In fact, AI is canceling all job positions designed for new hires or young staff, with basic skills and little (or no) work experience. Why invest in staff to be trained without specialist skills when those functions can be carried out by an AI? Il Guardian reports the worrying data of an international research by the British Standards Institution, a research that describes what is happening and what will happen in the world of work with the word jobpocalypse. 41 percent of companies surveyed in China, Japan, Australia, Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom explained that whenever new work needs emerge, it is now company practice to explore AI-based solutions before considering hiring a human to do a job and/or solve a problem.

Faced with a two-fifths reduction in the positions available for new hires and a further cut in the same already budgeted for 2026, the company executives interviewed in the research believe that the risk is worth it. In fact, 55 percent of respondents believe that the benefits of implementing AI in companies more than offset the devastating impact on the workforce. Many managers also admit that the job with which they began their professional journey no longer exists today and, even if it did, it would be carried out by an AI. The risk, however, is that such a contraction of the workforce will be created as to lead to a lack of professional training for an entire generation. With obviously devastating social and economic consequences, so much so that many believe that a jobpocalypse is only a matter of time.
