Announced during the Meta Connect event last year, the automatic voice dubbing functionality in Reels on Facebook and Instagram is now accessible to the general public, after a test phase. This novelty, available for Facebook creators with more than 1000 subscribers and for all public Instagram accounts, aims to make content more accessible by breaking linguistic barriers. It makes it possible to translate the videos in another language while retaining the characteristics and tone of the original voice. To strengthen the realism effect, an option of labial synchronization adjusts the words translated to the movements of the mouth, in order to offer a more natural rendering.

Touching a wider audience

“Many talented creators have a potential audience that does not necessarily speak the same language,” said Adam Mosseri, owner of the social network, in a post on Instagram. “If we can help you reach this audience, cross cultural and linguistic barriers, we can help you develop your community and draw more from Instagram and the platform.”

For the moment, only English and Spanish are available, but Meta has announced that he wanted to expand the range of languages soon, without specifying which will be concerned. To use this technology, it is enough for creators to choose the option “Translate your voice with Meta AI”, before the publication of a real. The automatically doubled videos will include a strip clearly signaling to Facebook and Instagram users that it is a translation generated by AI, reports Techcrunch.
