Amnesty International asked this Monday, August 25 to the President of the Republic Nicolás Maduro the immediate release of all people arbitrarily detained for political reasons in Venezuela. The organization issued the call after informing that between August 23 and 24, 13 people were released in the Helicoid, a center managed by the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin).
Among those released are figures such as Pedro Guanipa, Rafael Ramírez and Américo de Grazia. However, the NGO warned that this partial measure does not resolve the general situation of political detainees in the country.
“We demand Nicolás Maduro to release all people arbitrarily detained and protect their life, physical integrity and the guarantees of a fair judgment during their detention,” said Amnesty International in his statement.
The organization recalled that, according to figures from the Criminal Forum, 816 people remain arbitrarily detained and that new arrests are continued for political reasons routinely.
Amnesty International described these practices as systematic violations of human rights and highlighted the need for the Venezuelan government to comply with the international norms that protect the political detainees.
