(Xports News Reporter Kwon Dong-hwan) ‘Shuttlecock Empress’ Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance, world No. 1) ranked first in badminton singles player prize money in the 2026 season.
Indonesian media outlet ‘Land Bank’ reported on the 23rd (Korean time), “Ahn Se-young earned $217,300 (about 329 million won) by participating in just three competitions.”
According to the media, Ahn Se-young has earned the most prize money among singles players participating in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour in the 2026 season.
After winning the Indonesia Open (Super 1000) last January, Ahn Se-young also reached the top at the India Open (Super 750) that immediately followed. In the All England Open (Super 1000), which ended on the 8th, she lost to Wang Zhiyi (China, world 2nd) and finished in runner-up.
BWF World Tour prize money varies depending on the tournament level. The total prize money for the Super 1000 competition, the highest level, is $1.45 million (about KRW 2.194 billion), and the total prize money for the Super 750 competition is $950,000 (about KRW 1.437 billion).
In singles events, winners of the Super 1000 and 750 competitions take home 7% of the total prize money. If you take second place, you will receive 3.40% of the total prize money.
Ahn Se-young won $101,500 (about 154 million won) in prize money by winning the Indonesia Open, and earned $49,300 (about 75 million won) at the India Open. The prize money earned at the All England Open, where he finished second, was $66,500 (about 101 million won).
Last season, Ahn Se-young won 11 international competitions and earned a total of $1,003,175 (approximately 1.518 billion won) in prize money, becoming the first player in badminton history to exceed $1 million in prize money in a single season. This season, as he ranked first in the total prize money for singles players, attention is focused on whether he will surpass last season’s prize money.
Meanwhile, after Ahn Se-young, the singles player who earned the most prize money this season is Wang Z.
Wang Ziyi’s total prize money this season is $192,600 (about 291 million won). He lost to Ahn Se-young at the Malaysia Open and India Open and finished as runner-up, but beat Ahn Se-young 2-0 in the All England Open final, breaking his 10-game losing streak against An Se-young.
Ahn Se-young’s rival Chen Yu-fei (China, world 4th) also ranked. Chen Yufei won this season’s Indonesia Masters (Super 500) and other events, and the total prize money reached $91,400 (about 138 million won), ranking 5th.
